Continuing education is important but i'm currently concerned with the new CEU law for social workers. Speaking to other social workers, I find they dislike the number of CEU requirements within a 3 year period -(45 credit hours in Hawaii for 2016. 45 credits is a huge jump for social workers who started from 0 credits for many years to 15 and than to 45. The 45 credits will apply to all BACHELOR licensed social workers, Licensed Social Workers, and Clinical social workers. Michigan has 45 credit hours but that is along a 4 year period. Other states are 30 CEU and have different requirements for licensed social workers and clinical social workers. I'm researching ceu credits in all 50 states and writing a report to hope for a bill to amend the number of ceu so we can keep social workers licensed and educated.
I hate to see social worker choosing not to be licensed because they see 45 credits as a huge financial burden. I will work on looking up ceu credit cost and findings ways that it can be affordable.
*Some findings-still in process
The bill that got enacted in 2013 has big organization like NASW and Hawaii Psych Association. There lacks testimony of voices of many social work agencies working in Hawaii. Wow, there is one student who wrote a testimony...what happened to the voices of other students and individual social workers saying something?
I couldn't believe it when I read an article that social workers get an F in social advocacy because they don't get involved in politics. Let's change that!
IF you actually look individually at CEU credits across states, some differentiate for number of CEU for Bachelors and Master level social workers.
Proposal for new amendment to capture the differences: Bachelor 15 Masters 30 Master Clinical 45
or
Bachelor 25 Masters Licensed 35 Master Clinical 45 ?
or Bachelor 15 Master 25 and Masters Clinical at 35?

NEED: social workers willing to testify the need for amending the number of CEU
NEED: social workers to be involved in poll and response
